paying tax bill with credit card

Options
Hello,

I'm self-employed and will pay my tax bill in Jan 2012. I have what I owe in a savings account ready.

My wife has a Sainsburys and Tesco credit card, both that earn either clubcard or nectar points. I have the option to pay the tax bill on a credit card. If my tax bill was paid by either of these credit cards, would points be earned? Obviously I would pay the credit card off in full after.

Just not sure if this transaction would qualify for points.

Anyone have any idea?

Many thanks

Mike

Yes you would earn points, however, they will charge you for using a credit card. When I last asked, what they were going to charge me worked out more than what I could have earnt in points/cashback.

Ah yes. Just looked and HMRC charge 1.4% on the transaction. So for example if my tax bill is £2500 then thats £35 fee.

Also they don't accept AMEX so it would have to be Tesco as the sainsburys card is Amex.

Looks like its not worth it.

    Thanks Mike
