Is it worth trying to reclaim from several lenders?

Hi all
Over the years, I've held various credit cards, had various loans & a few different bank accounts.
My financial management leaves a lot to be desired & so, all of these accounts etc have either been closed & consolidated into a new loan, settled (either in full or full & final) or, passed to external collection agencies (sold on).
I have a good idea who I had facilities with & roughly when but, no idea of account numbers. Is it worth me contacting the original lenders & if so, how far back can I go ie 6 years? 12 years?
Any advice welcomed!
Thanks
