Lidl dvd player and card reader

This player needs a bit of a special unlocking - have a search on the net for the model number - you have to copy a downloaded file to a CD inside a couple of subdirectories and get the player to update using it.

You're looking for a "Targa DP-5100x"
Whack tat into google and it's the first hit. You need the cached version as it's down at the moment (https://www.dvd.reviewer.co.uk).
But here's the gist of it:
OK Guys Try This;
Go to this site http://www.targa.gmxhome.de/frieschalten_des_regionalcodes.htm
Download the file kpjct19_1.dvd to your Desktop.Make SURE this file is named EXACTLY this way if not rename it. Now create another folder on your desktop called
RMTM0000 inside this folder create another folder called SCARLET . Now copy the
kpjct19_1.dvd file from your desktop and paste it into the SCARLET Folder.
Now burn the RMTM0000 folder to a CD.
After this is finished place the CD into your Targa Player and close the door. You will get a screen telling you the unit is on region 2 select 0-6 to change. Select 0 and press pause button to save. WALLA Enjoy all Movies.
Now all I have to do is hope my friends who I sent to Rugby manage to get me one!

For a divx player, I think the most important question is "is firmware upgrades supported?"0
-
I looked at this one when it was originally £60.
Then bought the Eltax DV280 (with Divx) for £70 from Richer Sounds, and I'm a happy bunny.
Just don't think the Targa is worth £50. Specs are not bad but for the risk you are taking buying it from Lidl it really ought to be £40 max IMHO.

Majik - thanksJust got home with my Targa. At least when I'm asking for help with setting up umpteen videos and a dvd to one telly you'll know what make the dvd player is

Thankyou to the Original poster:D0 -
I've just received this info from A N Other:
You can get the same hack without doing all the folder thing from http://www.math.uga.edu/~djb/html/dvd.html and download the file FreeZoneLG6053.exe.
Download the file FreeZoneLG6053.exe. The file should be 52,551 bytes long.
This is a self-executing RAR format file.
I recommend extracting with Stuffit or unrar (on a Mac) or winrar (on a PC)
rather than executing on a PC, on general principles of virus avoidance.
What you extract from this file is a disc image in bin/cue format, with file names 021022_0801.bin and 021022_0801.cue.
Use a CD burning program to create a CD from this disc image.
Don't just make a data CD with these two files on it!
You don't need to know this unless you can't find the FreeZone file and need to create the CD from scratch,
but it
has the following directory structure.
There is one directory, called RMTM0000, with one subdirectory called Scarlet.
In this subdirectory, there is one file, with filename kpjc19_1.dvd, consisting of four bytes of data (hex 17 17 8C 00).
Put the CD in the player. On the TV screen, you will see a menu of country codes. Country code zero selects region free.
If you have done this correctly, when you try it a second time, it should report region 0 instead of the original region setting.
If it still shows the original region setting, check the size of the file kpjc19_1.dvd on the disc you created.
If it's 5MB, you did something wrong; it should be four bytes long.>You've probably used another file, called LG5000.zip, which doesn't work.
There is misinformation on the web (and on amazon.com) about this being the file to use; it isn't.
Go back and reread the instructions and try again.
I'm completely blinded by all that, but hope someone might find it useful.
