It is for a last-minute flight... it'll cost you over £800 with Virgin.

Of course it is a bargain:
1.quick check in (within 30 seconds)
2.most seats are empty so you will end up with around three seats to yourself
    3.cheap flights
4.BA are one of the better airlines.

Checked last night for LGW-BCN for a day trip to-day was £57 return.

Didn't book because had already booked a trip to Milan on easyJet, easyJet flight was cancelled (strike), so no day trip, but have a refund from easyJet for £81.70

You can get £250 rtn trips to NYC all winter if you book about a month in advance. If you want to go to New York at a few hours notice , knock yourself out. It would have been a better PR excercise for BA to dish out theses flights at proper bargain prices rather than their lowest published fare. The aircraft will be going anyway even if empty.
