I've booked a week at the YHA in Oakhampton activity centre. All inclusive & used my tesco vouchers. Worked out a very good deal for a summer holiday for the me & the kids.

That'll be Okehampton in Devon, I guess. If you head further west there are some great hostels in Cornwall too. Perranporth looks over the massive Perran Sands and beach, Land's End is up a valley between Land's End (avoid!) and Cape Cornwall (great view - count the lighthouses as the sun sets!), Penzance (good base - e.g. for St Michael's Mount, go by boat when the tide's in, walk back... kids love that! You don't need to go into the house, just have an ice-cream by the Mount's harbour), Lizard beside Most Southerly Point (and nesting choughs and Lizard lighthouse, with a visitor centre). Treyarnon - right by a small beach .. at the end of the garden (nice place to have a beer as the sun sets. They've a booze licence.). Tintagel, top of the cliff, view over the ocean, walk the coast path past the church to the castle (not much left! - slipped into the sea or just destroyed by wind and rain) (avoid Tintagel village - King Arfur's Fried Chicken, Queen Guinevere's Caff - and Lancelot's Loos! Well, you get the idea!). There are other good hostels I've not mentioned!

If you go to Plymouth take the ferry to Torpoint (it's free from Torpoint to Devonport - even better!) and see some of the navy ships.

    Have fun!

    ..... http://www.hostelworld.com/ and http://www.hostelbookers.com/ .....

and of course there's Hostelling International at http://www.hihostels.com/ .

The YHA (Youth Hostels Association) and the Scottish YHA are members of Hostelling International - as are other hostelling organisations in 90 countries (with over 4,000 hostels - and at nearly all 'youth' doesn't mean young in years only!).

If you want to go to the seaside, Sheringham in Norfolk has a nice YHA hostel, lots of rooms, bar, restauarant, games room. Very close to town, beach, station, (steam railway), theatre in a quaint little seaside town. Just up the coast Wells-Next-The-Sea (fantastic beach, nice town/harbour) also has a YHA which was recently refurbed. I can thoroughly recommend Sherignham yha but haven't stayed at Wells.
Just because somebody is certain doesn't mean they are right!
