garage lent me a car BUT...

Hi All,

My car brokedown few weeks ago, and the car is still in a local garage. Therefore carless and I work 100 miles away!

I planned to rent a car, but the garage said they would he able to lend me a car. For a moment I thought at least something is going right.

Been using the car for few days and yesterday 10miles away from my accommodation a light came on and starts flashing and beeping at me!! It was gone 5pm so the garage was closed.

Spoke to them today and they said the car is safe to drive and that I was fully responsible for the car if it broke down or if I decided to take it to a local Peugeot to see what the problem was I would have to foot the bill/if it brokedown I would need to make sure it was recovered. (Its the engine diagnostic light that has come up, which according to manual could be injector/2 other things! brother-in-law said it could be anything.)

Is the garage correct? As I have no idea what to do.

Thanks

Most of the time a Check engine light is really just complaining about emissions. Unless you can actually find or feel anything actually wrong, such as rough running or the petrol cap not on correctly, just carry on driving it's not your car so don't worry about it failing the MOT due to poor emissions.
  • Surely if its a service or mechanical issue its down to the garage that owns the car to sort the problem. Not the customer who happens to be driving the loan car at the time.

Its a hire car, Just do the same as everyone else does.

Its the fastest car in the world, Nothing is faster than a hire car.. Thrash the living daylights out
of it. If it dies get it recovered back to them and forget about it.

It maybe a fault thats going to take many hours to find and not worth the costs. So its used as a
loaner. If your not happy give it back and pay for a posh hire car.

I'd never recommend that at all. IF you're not happy with the car take it back and hire a car elsewhere. Just because they've lent it to you doesn't give you the right to thrash the crap out of based on some forum go'ers advice (who has nothing to loose financially if they sue YOU for wrecking their vehicle).

If that's their attitude to their own car, what are the repairs to yours going to be like? Or what will happen if you get issues with your car once you get it back. I would be more concered with that, than their car.
  • With an attitude like that from the garage, I'd just take the bulb out!
