  • ZIPVIT OJ Omega 3 Juice - 360ml 5.95 contains 900EPA+600DHA=1.5g Omega 3 per 5ml tsp.
With all omega 3 oils they taste less if kept cold. So when you open it put it straight in the fridge. LEAVE it in the fridge till the moment you want to use it. Put it straight back into the fridge ASP. Don't let it warm up. Keep it as cold as possible ALL the time. You will then find the flavour more acceptable.

    Cod Liver Oil Liquid - St Clements 600 ml £8.95 Each 5ml (one teaspoonful) serving contains: Pure Icelandic Cod Liver Oil providing Omega 3 – 920mg (of which DHA – 460mg and EPA – 345mg). Vitamin A – 3,234iu (120% RDA), Vitamin D – 416iu (207% RDA) and Natural Source Vitamin E – 5.5mg (55% RDA).
This also provides a useful (but not sufficient) amount of Vit d3. I keep being told it tastes better than the Zipvit OJ but I don't have a problem with the OJ. Because St Clements has a higher DHA content it may be more suitable for those with depression.

No reason of course why you shouldn't have a tsp of both.

The Haliborange Omega-3 Fish Oil for Kids contain Capsule shell (glycerol, gelling agent: gelatin, modified starch, colours: (iron oxide, titanium dioxide), acidity regulator: citric acid, sweetener: sodium saccharin, flavour: orange). Fish oil, sweeteners (mannitol, aspartame), hydrogenated vegetable oil, vitamin C (ascorbic acid), flavour: orange, emulsifier: lecithin, vitamin E (dl alpha tocopheryl acetate), vitamin A prep., vitamin D prep.

I can't understand why anyone would want to use a product that includes aspartame or mannitol or hydrogenated veg oil (these lead to trans fats and they counteract the role of omega 3 so it's pointless. I'm not posting the pathetic omega 3 content of these as no one should be using them under any circumstances.

Haliborange High DHA Concentration Price: £9.99 300ml
Sucrose, cod liver (21.3%), water, orange juice concentrate, emulsifier (gum acacia), tuna fish oil (2.4%), vitamin C (ascorbic acid), flavours (lemon, orange), citric acid, preservative (sodium methyl hydroxybenzoate), vitamin A prep., vitamin E (dl alpha tocopheryl acetate), vitamin D prep.

I discovered a disturbing fact about the healthspan Cod Liver oil, which I liked and have been taking for months now, because it seemed the healthiest option after doing the research into its mercury contents. I also fell for their advertising of coming out on top in tests. I figured their refining process excluded all pollution, but was wrong.

Healthspan's St Clements contains a large amount of Dioxin and PCBs with Dioxin like properties, sitting just below the limit the EU has set for fish oil supplements. It contains 1.47 +/- 0.15 ng/kg while the limit is 1.5. Now, the even Seas Ocean Gold Cod Liver Oil was also tested and came out even higher at 3.08 and salmon oil at a shocking 5.65 (Holland & Barrett
Naturally Inspired Salmon Oil 1000 mg).

These are high quantities, higher than the upper safety limits and can be harmful to growing foetesus especially.

I am really annoyed, healthy nutrition is never easy! Now going to look for yet another brand!

The test document can be found at:

The Healthspan variant also has Arsenic at 0.31mg/kg which is the same as ppm, while the Seven Seas cod oil only has 0.01 mg/kg, see http://www.food.gov.uk/multimedia/pdfs/fsis8505.pdf
