I reckon compared to you we rough it so I'll leave the advice to others who will be more in tune with what might suit you.:)

what about a flight short stay, cruise, stay fly.

Take the free flight to the west coast take some time in LA SF and do a 2weeks cruise to the hawaii.

Or flight to far east eg hong kong cruise to singapore similar.

I could look up some combinations using Virgin flights and a decent cruise line.

Can you open jaw the flight?

What about expanding the China option to include more centers somewhere like Chengdu mountains and temples and pandas.

have to admit i really really dont fancy a cruise ... i think i would go nuts ... the type of entertainment that i have seen on cruise videos would be enough to make me jump ship .... i know that may not sound like a very popular thing to say ... and i mean no offence to anyone that enjoys cruises ... it just really isnt me ... just like i am sure the things i enjoy others would hate:)

the China extended option may be a possible though ...

Another vote for South Africa. We spent a week in Cape Town and ran out of time, we went on a boat to see the white sharks, went to Cape Point, a mini safari thing, and wine tasting! So much to do, but I would go in a good hotel, it isn't the safest place in the world so you need to be on organised trips. The ones we went on were small (up to 6 people) - we loved it all!

an open jaw flight ticket is when you fly into one place and return from another, with an overland inbetween, so fly into Cape Town and home from Jo'burg. South Africa is about the only long-haul destination we've been to more than once, 'cos we loved it so much. Admittedly it was over 10 years ago but I still think if you are sensible, dress down and avoid any jewellery it's safe enough on your own. (I find 'looking poor' is easy! ).

another way of homing in on a few options:

"Virgin.... operates long haul services from Heathrow to New York (Newark and JFK), Los Angeles, San Francisco, Washington, Boston, Miami, Tokyo, Hong Kong, Johannesburg, Cape Town, Shanghai, Delhi, Mumbai, Lagos, Sydney, Dubai, Chicago, Nairobi and Mauritius.
....... from Gatwick to Orlando, Barbados, St Lucia, Antigua, Las Vegas, Grenada, Tobago, Cuba and Jamaica (Kingston and Montego Bay).
....... from Manchester to Orlando, Barbados and St Lucia.

Cross out the ones you can rule out for one reason or another, see what's left?

cheers David ... learnt something new there ... i'm not sure if we can do that with our flight i spose i could ask and see

have to admit i dont wear jewellry on holiday and often look poor whilst on holiday myself ... no cameras or anything on show ... cheap clothes ( i refuse to spend alot of money on clothes) old worn shoes etc etc ...

i spose that is something that does worry me about S.Africa ... the safety aspect ... i have to admit when we were in the gambia we didnt feel unsafe ( although i did have a stalker ... but thats a whole other story) but i have hears S.Africa is much more dangerous

i did like the look of the victoria falls so was thinking if we did land up in S.Africa then i was thinking of going up there for a wee nosey ... but the prices were scandulous so i promptly changed my mind lol

the ones we have crossed out so far new york ( infact all of U.S.A , weve been several times now and i fancy something different ... although i do have a friend that lives in SF)

Tokyo ... thats my sons dream holiday so would feel rotten going without him

Hong Kong we were thinking of going from there to Austrailia ... But not deff decided on

Barbados, St Lucia, Montego bay etc from what i gather there isnt much to do atnight in these places ... and just a beach holiday wouldnt be fun for me ... i need to do more things

dehli , we looked at that ( and mumbai ... although virgin dont fly there it is a different company that virgin uses) it had alot of plusses but a few minuses ...
Dubai , that was a deff no seems alot of dubai is about shopping ... i hate shopping :)

    shanghai, beijing ... two possibilities

cuba ... we dont really know enough about the place so cant really say

    capetown ... looks ok actually

so out of them all we are left with

dehli, beijing , shanghai, hongkong (and flying down to Austrailia ourselves), capetown/ joburg ( but from what i gather capetown is the better option) and poss cuba

    did i miss anywhere?
