British Gas Boiler Installations

Don't know if this is the right place for this post but can anyone tell me if British Gas's offer of 40% off boiler supply and installations is a cost saving or merely 40% off a hugely inflated boiler price and labour costs to start with ?

I have asked for a quote but of course they want to come out and provide us with one based on the size of property and work involved etc.

My question is, is the offer of up to 40% or £400 saving based on the cheapest boiler and are their labour costs extortionate as they used to be?

Has anyone had a boiler installed by them recently and what did you have and what was your experience ?

Has no one had the offer from British Gas on a boiler to give me an idea of the cost of them replacing my boiler ? :(

It's the age old trick of doubling the price and then giving 20% discount. They tend to be hugely expensive for what you get; £3000+ for a budget boiler swap is quite common. They also like to list a whole range of items that are standard/compulsory separately, to make it look like you get a large amount of "extras" for free.
This is the company that holds the record in the industry for being caught lying or purposely misleading in their advertising; two 7 figure fines in one month this year.

One of their favourite tricks, is to quote for the smallest cheapest budget version of a known brand, and they compare to the full size brother, like a 1.4 litre basic A-class compares to a 3 litre E-class.
Their labour costs tend to hang around the £100/hour mark, and often enough on the wrong side of it.

Thanks for the advice. I was getting the quote out of interest plus my brother who is a plumber is unable to fit one for us at the moment due to health problems. Think I will give it a miss in that case with British Gas, I thought it might be a catch anyway and as I am a pensioner I can ill afford to be ripped off ;)

Get 2 or 3 quotes including one from BG. A friend of mine did that and then haggled BG down in price.

BG prices are typically 40% over independent GSR RGI's.
