tax credit question asap

hello,dear forum readers and experts! I am with my husband getting working tax credit and child tax credit,he is working part time,so he gets working tax cred and myself child tax cred.yesterday I start job as a dinner lady at school for 1 hour 15 min a day,for 5 days,I asked the manager and he told me it tax free because its only about 150 pound a month.So now I confused do i have to inform tax office or not that i start job.and do they reduce the payment after it?aam i qualified myself for working tax credits,or my little job not calculate that?thank you so much.

  • If by "tax office" you mean do you have to let the tax credit office know that you have started work then the answer is YES!

    You must keep them informed of ALL changes of circumstances and this is one of the really important changes.

    Give them a call and tell them that you have started work. They will adjust your award accordingly.

    Tax Credits are based on household income, so although you say your husband gets working tax credits and you get child tax credits it is actually a joint award. You will probably not see any change in payment if they have calculated off last years earnings as there is a £10k disregard but you must tell them you have additional income

    By tax free they mean that it is low enough that you won't pay NI or Income Tax (unless you have another job and your income exceeds your tax free allowance).

    However it is income so it must be declared for tax credits and other means tested benefits.

    thank you so much!i phoned them and told that i start job they say nothing gona change,beause of small hours.
  • For this year saula next year your money will be reduced, as you have been over payed although is only slightly, any reason you both can not do more hours?
