Pre payment gas and electric

Morning everyone,

I'm sorry if this is a bit of a random question but can anyone tell me if they have pay as you go meters how much they tend to top up each month or week?

The property that we have moved into has these meters and I don't really mind too much as it saves a big bill coming through but we seem to be constantly topping up the gas even though I have been making a concious effort not to use the heating too much etc. I was just wondering if anyone can give me an idea of what they spend so I can work out if it appears right or not?

I have checked with the supplier and there are no arrears on the meters. Our supplier is British Gas.

Thanks in advance for any comments.

If you have the heating on at 21 it will be quite a bit. £20 maybe £25 a week. Late December and January think £40 a week and in summer £5 a week. Maybe more depending on the efficiency of your boiler and insulation. It will be less if you have a small well insulated house, a high efficiency boiler, set it to 18 and use timers to turn the heat off during the day and middle of the night.
