$52k for an online BA degree. Worth it?

Is it worth investing $52,000 on an online education for a BA degree in Software Engineering? I know after graduation I'll be in the hole for a while but I'm hopeping that the software engineering field will pay good enough that I'll end up paying off all the debt within several years. Whats everyone's opinion on this?

are you american? is it an american site?

I would have thought a proper university would be the place to go
  • Yes I'm American. Online colleges are not uncommon and for full time working adults the convience of earning a college online while still being able to hold a full time job is a great plus. Only problem though is that online colleges tend to be more expensive for some reason.

A BA degree with the open university would cost £3500-4500 (~$7000) so from this side of the pond it does not sound like very good value! They do take international students.

    $52K !!!!!!!

Something very fishy here. If that included full board accomodation over 3 years attendance at a decent university then maybe its reasonable.

Furthermore, Software Engineering should attract a Bachelor of Science (BSc) or Engineering (BEng) degree not a Bachelor of Arts (BA). Thats for poetry and drama. ;)

Beware, something here doesn't add up!

Nah, it doesn't sound right. I have a BSc Hons Software Engineering degree.

It's definitely not an Arts degree unless they have started writing code in paint.

    $52k is crazy.

Why don't you just go to university or do something like the Open University? Im not going to give you any US-specific advice, as this is a UK site.

Send me the money and I'll send you your degree certificate. In fact you've done so well you've got an Honours degree - well done.
