House Alarm Systems

Hi there,

I hope it is the right forum for this question. I would appreciate any advice regarding home alarm systems as we are looking into getting one. Do you have any preferred company? Which is better, the alarm with monitoring or the one which you install yourself? Thanks for any advice.

I take it you mean a response in seconds from the alarm company not the police?

You'll get a response in seconds from the police - just it might be quite a lot of seconds :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

Check out which security systems comply with your home insurance. When I used to work in home insurance, they had to comply with nacoss (some sort of security body) and serviced yearly.

Get one that rings you up when it goes off.

You don't need it to ring the police - have a trusted neighbour who you can ring and see what's going on if you can't get home.

Be part of homewatch and get neighbours involved too.

I wouldn't (and haven't) told my insurers that I have an alarm system - unless you are prepared to put it on every time you pop out for a pint of milk/mow the lawn, in the event of a problem a claim will be declined should the alarm have been off.

I've used these a couple of times and pleased with the products and after sales service.

    Great question!
Miya, I'm sure the OP was quite capable of Googling an answer him/herself. On these forums, if you are quoting someone else, you should always state the source rather than pretend it's from your own knowedge. Or you could have just posted the link (in this case, http://homealarmsystemsuk.co.uk/).

You can install yourself but that would normally mean a wireless setup. I'd be inclined to have two or three local firms round to give quotes - they will look at your situation and advise which would be best in your circumstances.

If it's not installed to NACOSS standards, you won't get any discount from your home insurance.

As regards monitoring, there is a not insignificant monthly fee involved and you have to decide if it's worth it. Merely having a live system (not a dummy box, they can tell) is a good deterrent in itself.

Depends on insurer. Mine impose an additional £250 excess if the alarm was not set, but do not invalidate the claim.

Great question! If you are planning on getting home alarm systems for your home, there are a lot of UK providers who can offer you the system and their services as well especially if you don’t know how to install them. Usually, wireless home alarm systems UK providers will provide you with packages meaning they will offer you the system and at the same time their services. Normally, they will be the one to install the alarm systems in your home and they will normally conduct a monthly download test as well. Also, if the system sends an alarm, they will be notified immediately and they will be the one to contact the police to get to your home. You will normally have a response within a matter of seconds once your systems ring an alarm. Most of their services will include the master control panel, digital keypad, interior siren, motion detector, 3-door/window contacts, power supply, backup batter, yard sign, window decals and alarm monitoring certificate that you can use if you acquire a home insurance and having this certificate will entitle you to get a discount.g.php

Do you work there ? If you don't they should give you a job.
