is it using a netgear usb wireless adapter?

install cleanmem

disable defender, java quick start, sidebar unless you use it

uninstall google (toolbar) bloat.

tick and fix the (file missing)'s using hijackthis.

disable the roxmedia service using services.msc

after you have done a full scan with malwarebytes, and fixed anything found, disable it from startup using msconfig, along with these

Thanks again closed for your help.
Only 1GB RAM and, yes, netgear usb wireless adapter.
Can't get cleanmem to do anything. Followed your guide but couldn't get to the schedule never mind change it. lol
I've tried fixing the (file missing)'s but seems to recur.

roxmedia/lightscribe/google/adobe speed launcher still there, not sure if you want to keep.

cleanmem schedule you can leave, instructions were for xp, before microsoft decided to "improve?!" scheduled tasks

I suspect a few more of those O4's could be disabled from startup using msconfig, osd/apple/hpsysdrv.exe, also rtwake (reboot and check internet still works after changing), any problems, put the tick back in or run manually


You could disable windows media player network sharing if you don't use it.
