We have just bought a three bedroomed semi detached house, which before moving in, are decorating and basically overhauling the interior. The previous owner's were with E.ON, who I have contacted and given the meter readings, details of ownership etc..
I will be living in the house with my partner and her 15 year old son, we will be using a dual supply tariff . E.ON have suggested that we go on their Age UK online tariff, as their is no cancellation fee and no fixed contract to begin with, they quoted a figure of £68 per month for the first quarter.
Should I try this for the quarterly period or use the recommendation of a comparison site, which suggests that nPower would be a better option ? Not being in the house for a month will obviously affect the quarterly usage.

  • It all comes down to personal preference in my eye theres many things that draws people to suppliers and price I think before cause everywheres pretty high is low on the priority list

First of all look at your prices, get a bill from Eon of your month consumption so you know in KwH how much your using in your house then you can start matching that to prices to find out who is cheapest.

Then look at other factors your looking for such as

    Do you want online services?
Do you want 24 hour service?
Do you want high quality service?
Do you want simple tariffs (haha...)?
    Do you want added perks?

For example Scottish Power are highly recommended for there top notch service but are not so good usually with the prices or tariff (well to be honest havnt heard too much about them except there friendly service)

Or little perks like getting nectar points, topping up on a payge meter from home for free and having a payge service open 24/7 to which you may be drawn to british gas.

Im sure all the other 4 have really good points but your best investigating this cause im too lazy :)

Then weigh up the advantages and make your decision. Its just me but I find price is the least of my concern because there isnt too huge a saving to be made but others always disagree with me.

You've raised some good points there, thanks for that :). I think I'll try 2-3 months and then do as you say, obtain a price comparison on my usage over that period.

I don't think that reading some of the horror stories regarding E.ON's price hikes has helped me much, also it took me 45 minutes to call through to their home moving team, on a 0845 number, that I didn't like one bit ! . I was just told that there are a lot of people moving at the moment, hmm.
