i was wondering has anyone actually hired ski clothing + goggles ect
son is going on a school trip next march to bulgaria - and the cost was up till today supposed to be included in the price - the latest letter home has now asked the parents to provide the ski jacket - salopettes(SP) goggles ect to say the least we are not amused
Anyway what i was wondering are there any good ski- clothing hire companys anyone can recommend as im loathed to fork out for jackets / trousers/goggles ect that Son will only use on this trip

Never hired, but we usually get ours from TK Maxx, it might be last seasons stock but most people get there stuff from there that I know! Also, try somewhere like Go Outdoors, they usually have some stuff quite cheaply on offer.0

Yes, TK Maxx is great for ski clothes, as is Aldi when they have their ski clothes, but if you are not sure your son will ever use them again (might even be at the age where he will outgrow them before next season) then it might be worthwhile looking for second hand items for sale on ebay or gumtree - lots of folks sell clothes used only on one trip as they find that skiing isn't for them, that kids have outgrown it, or they want the latest seasons gear - this could prove to be as cheap (if not cheaper) as hiring, and you can then re-sell or give it to a charity store/freecyle at the end of your sons holiday. Also worth asking on your local free cycle site if anyone has ski clothing they no longer want.
As for other items you wouldn't normally hire - gloves, hats, socks, goggles - again TK Maxx or Aldi are safe bets.
Must say the school is out of order dropping this on you when it had previously been saying that clothing hire was included.
Hope your son has a great time.0 -

thank you and i hope he has a great time too - hes 15 hes growing by the second so yep even if he liked it and happened to go again i can see it will be a one season wonder
as for the school dropping this on us now - dont worry weve made our feelings well known - they say that yes everything was to be included but have themselves been let down ??
anyway i will keep looking out for some cheaper clothing / hiring but ty so much so far for the suggestions - if anyone else has any ideas0 -
I've bought some from Aldi. It's always a great place to purchase ski stuff!0

If you look on Ebay, you should get some for peanuts. As you say, a lot of people (especially kids) will wear them for only a week, so on Ebay you may pick up bargains for clothing that has hardly any wear.
TK Maxx is always good for new clothing, and is way cheaper than you would normally pay. You can usually buy goggles etc there as well.0 -

The thing with 'everything being included' on school trips doesn't usually go as far as clothing in my experience. It usually means that ski's (and poles), lift pass, (sometimes) a helmet, and food is included, plus any little trips out like ice skating etc. Then clothing hire if available is usually on top as many people have there own. Have you tried asking anyone you know who ski's if they have anything he could borrow? My ski clothes always get passed down to other people, just depends who's asking really!0 -
I go skiing every year and as I've just turned 20, I'm not the richest either. Previously I always bought my stuff from TK Maxx which has been great, however went in my local primark the other day and they now have a ski range, which looks quite trendy and is made by Trespass I think - or another decent make. The adult jackets are £30-£40 and the pants are around £20-£30, great deal in my opinion, and it is decent quality too! :j
They also do 'gauntlet' style gloves and goggles for pretty cheap. I haven't seen any helmets, although Aldi always bring some out around winter for around £15.00
Also, if I can provide any advice on skiing, it would be to not go too overboard on thick layers and jumpers etc. Not only does this take up luggage space, but it never gets used as the ski jacket is very very warm, on a sunny day it can be hot and lastly you get hot whilst exercising. One or two for when your son is not skiing will suffice. I usually wear a couple of skin tight base layers under my ski jacket and some skin tight leggings (mainly to protect the sweat going on to the salopettes!)
I hope this helps0 -
Mountain Warehouse do lots of inexpensive own brand ski wear & often give 10-20% vouchers (make one cheap purchase & get a voucher off your next!) less than hiring I would say.0

Aldi's skiwear is on sale next Thursday, you'll get everything you need there at a good price and it's decent quality(...if not the trendiest stuff on the slopes!). They are quoting a complete adult's kit (thermals, midlayer, jackets, salopettes, socks) for £54.99. I think the kids was £29.99. We once looked at hiring and it was almost as expensive as buying so we took the plunge and bought instead. You can get plenety of wear out of a ski jacket (and even salopettes!) in a cold winter and the sock, gloves, thermals can come in handy too!Just because somebody is certain doesn't mean they are right!0

I've just recently ordered a few Nike ski pants from this company for our upcoming ski-ing holiday; http://stores.ebay.co.uk/c-h-sportswear
They were £40each and were out in a few days in the post. Our local nike shop they were over £120! Few pennies saved to say the leastMember #120 £2012 in 2012 - £297.74/£2012 14.79%
