Moving House - British Gas
Hey folks,
Looking for some info, i have been with BG for many year paying by direct debit for both gas and electricity. My new house has a pay and go meter, BG have told me they will take care of everything saying they will contact npower for me and within 28 days they will come out and change the meters over... But.. what happened when the credit that's on there runs out... I assume i will have to call and open an npower account anyway?

Hey dude
Yeh British Gas sort everything in regards to changing the supply to themselves, however they should have advised you to contact your current supplier just to let them know you had moved in to the property.
There not mind readers so on there system they will either have you showing as the old tennant who could have a debt or an occupier, so when British Gas apply with your details they will say... who? and object to the house changing supply over.
Just give them a ring saying your a new tennant, they will need to take your details they shouldnt know so early your leaving so you dont need to mention it, but if they do know you might get a wee sales pitch to stay with them so be prepared but all in all get your details with them so any problems you have with your payge meter in the meantime they can sort cause the process switching over can take about 4 - 6 weeks so if anything goes wrong in that time(touch wood :] ) British Gas wont be able to help you0
