Does anyone know of any very cheap accommodation in Edinburgh for a few days in March? Near city centre. thanks.

Google "hostel edinburgh", plenty of places for £10 per person per night - don't go for places ON the Royal Mile (aka High Street) unless you don't need much sleep or can sleep through the end of the universe as it can be somewhat boisterous.
Alternatively see if you can score a cheap room through Travelodge, there's a central one just a few hundred feet from the Royal Mile
