I always knew I wanted to pay it off early, but in the first 4 years I was doing boring but necessary stuff like getting a new boiler, re-wiring, extending the lease and buying a garage so I didn't get very far with it.

I really started focusing when I joined this site - it made me realise just how much I was coasting - but I have only just finished my major renovations (just got the kitchen and bathroom floors to go!) so now I'll be able to really hit the mortgage hard.

I can't tell you how great this site has been. I was overspending every month when I started - not drastically, and nothing ever went on credit cards, but I was reducing my ability to save every month. Then I started watching my spending much more carefully, and now I am living within the same amount of money as I was two, maybe even three years ago, despite sky high inflation.
