Shocked at unsuccessful application Halifax Clarity

Options
I have just applied for a Halifax Clarity credit card by phone and was so shocked to be turned down with no reason given. I have an excellent credit history and cannot think of one reason why they should turn me down. I already have Santandar credit cards but wanted this one to use while travelling in India because its very cheap. Its not the end of the world but WHY?

Your credit history is only one of the things a potential lender considers. Impossible for anyone to suggest what the problem could be without further information. The sort of info that would be relevant -

Do you have a permanent job? how much do you earn?
What other debts do you have? what other available credit do you have?
Are you on the electoral roll?
How long have you had the santander card? is there a balance on it? do you use it regularly? do always pay off in full each month? do you just pay the minimum each month?
Do you have an overdraft? do you use it every month?
A smile enriches those who receive without making poorer those who give
or "It costs nowt to be nice"
  • I have absolulely nothing that I could possibly be accused of ... but someone told me recently that my credit ratings could be too good and therefore they are likely to get nothing out of me. What do you think? I prefer to think this is the case :-)

Have you rung them and asked?
  • Are you an existing halifax customer? do you do your main banking with them? Whats your income like, are you full time, are you on the electoral roll, do you have a large balance on your santander card...etc..

    lol

They may have decided that, based on your spending history on other cards, that they could not make much profit out of you.

Banks would not tell you that if you phoned.

How do banks make their money?

    Think about it.

The OP will have failed either on scoring, adverse credit, or both. A lender will normally indicate which.
