Border Oak - any thoughts?

Hi people,

We had a 2nd viewing today on a beautiful border oak house that we love. It was only built 2 years ago so there are the normal gaps and cracks that would need sorting out due to house movement and we understand and are not scared of that.

I tend to love this style of house so don't really think very practically about it!

Anyone lived in one? Any thoughts or advice? EA seem to think the "kerb appeal" of which it has masses adds a fair bit of value. I agree but not to the same extent he does!!

Would you pay more for a pretty house?!

Thanks

ZC

I wouldn't say it adds much value if any, just makes it more saleable. Of course part of having kerb appeal of means it's on a nice looking road with other well kept properties, which means it's probably a relatively nice area, which of course does affect the price.

True Sirmosh, I think the phrase is more saleable as opposed to more valuable.

Its really difficult to judge a fair offer as very few houses ever come up for sale and they are very individualistic. It's only worth what someone will pay for it I suppose - there are a few interested parties though. A very similar house sold very quickly (we know, we offered on it!) but there are bigger properties in a (far) worse condition that have sat on the market for a very long time. So hard to judge!

Border oak houses are not just pretty. Yes they have kerb appeal but the oak frame is a huge expense. They're crafted, not thrown up.

There are a few people out there that would bite your hand off for a Border Oak house. It's like Aga ownership.
