Microsoft word won`t open

I`ve just tried to open word to do some typing and it won`t open, its on the task bar but is doing nothing!

Please can anyone help?

Not sure what you mean...sorry!! bit thick when it comes to technical stuff.

right click it and 'maximise'

It won`t let me do that, all I get is a box that says open / pin to task bar / un pin / properties. But even clicking on open it does nothing.

try.. ctrl + alt + del > task manager > processes > search for the word.exe (or msword.exe) process > highlight it > click end process. when it's gone, try re-opening.

It crashed. Always do the simple things first, like shut down and restart.
