    What would you suggest?

As I have invested in property, shares, bonds, unit trusts and investment trusts for over 25 years I think I've got a reasonable handle on investing money. But I'm always open to constructive criticism and am prepared to learn from those more expert than myself.

I await your expert advice with very considerable interest.

I agree that BTL can be a great investment, if balanced by other investments (as you yourself have done).

But that is different than advising widows and orphans to invest all their eggs in one property basket. We don't know enough about them to advise anything at this point until they get back to us.

But even if other finances allow I think that a new widow with a young child should tread very carefully.
