  • we went there many years ago in fact it was our first ever package hols in the carribbean and so far it has been the best.. the hotel/catering was fantastic... we had few excursions.. took the local buses which were few pences... the island was duty free (this was about 10yrs ago so don't know now) so shopping in the capital was great..Excursions also to Venezuela to see the FALLS...The island is not that big but all depends what you expect... we wanted beach hols and few sighseeing also and we got it... We stayed 15nights and really enjoyed it....As i say it was a while ago and i don't know how and if it has changed...
    Enjoy...

Yep, our visit was some years ago too and have the same feelings as froggy. However, I do seem to remember there were mozzies around?

We took the excursion to Angel Falls. A bit of a let-down as there was not much water falling over them! Flew past but didn't land there, but did land at Canaima falls and had a barbeque-type meal. A good day out.

From memory, the hotels on the island were quite varied, so I guess a lot will depend on how good yours is!

went there 2 years ago. loved the place cant wait to go back. people friendly, dirt cheap petrol at a penny a litre ( wow) although water is a pound a litre.

Don't forget you need money for airport departure tax otherwise you will be staying and be prepared for some interesting encounters with venezualian customs officers even after you have checked your luggae in.

Otherwise great place you will love it.

Go to the brand new water park as well cost us about 5 quid for 3 of us and its spotless.

hi tired mum. we went to margarita last year, stayed a little further down the coast than dunes hotel, playa el agua. loved the holiday, locals were really friendly, and prices cheap, although we were all inc so didnt eat out much.

took a two day trip into the orinoco delta and angel falls, and the cost of the holiday was worth every penny for this experience alone.

the one thing we did say was that we wished we'd done the first choice multi centre, ie a week in the rainforests and a week at the beach, because the rainforests were truly mindblowing, and totally unspoilt.

go, you will have a whale of a time, and i'm jealous:o

oh, just an aside, friends of ours did have all there belongings stolen from the beach by dunes...sorry, didnt know whether to tell you that or not.

pm me if you want any further info.

dont know how old your kids are, assuming you have some by your username, our son was 13 when we went, and loved it, catching crocs and pirahna's, to say nothing of the ciccadas and bullfrogs!

    xx
