buying a new laptop

I am buying my first laptop, and have a budget of £450, but i'm clueless as to what i should be looking for in the spec, any help or recommendations would be great .

Hi len.g1 and welcome to MSE. What do you want to use it for? If it's the usual email, web browsing and the odd word document there is no need to spend £450 on a decent laptop. There is a thread on here for buying cheap laptops that you may want to look at as it may give you an idea of what's out there.Yellowlawn
