Hi
Just a quick question. We booked and paid for a longhaul flight before the revised APD tax hike was announced (so the airline didn't include it) and we just received an email saying that we will have to pay an extra £40 to £80 (Its really long haul so we went premium economy). I just wanted to know what my statutory rights are regarding this? I've paid for the flights already so surely they have to honour that, or offer my money back. What happens if I can't afford it? We called the airline and they told us to take it up with our government!
Cheers:rotfl:

The airlines have to pay the government the extra money. The airlines’ terms and conditions all say they reserve the right to refuse to let you fly, if you don’t pay any increase in tax. Sadly, the answer to your two questions are: none and tough. If you don’t fly, you’ll be deemed to have chosen not to fly. What do the flights’ T&Cs say about choosing to cancel?古池や蛙飛込む水の音0

I have just had an email to and as it is the government asking for tax, there is nothing we can do.
But I had to laugh at "What if I cant afford it" after you had said we are going "Premium economy"0 -
Sorry, you will need to pay it or the airline can refuse travel.
Mr Brown and his tax bandits are exempt from any contractual agreements. Time we voted Brown and colleagues out....
Of course you will be helping the environment
Just another nasty tax increase (100%) that neither you or anyone else has any control over...0 -
Out of curiousity - who are you flying with?
We are flying to Australia via British Airways and Quantas. I have made enquiries and thankfully it seems they are both waivering the fee's as we paid for our flights months ago.
It's just another rip off and they know we have to pay or we won't have holiday's abroad if we don't.became debt free December 060 -
Thanks for all your replies. The T&C just say tickets are none refundable. We booked with Virgin atlantic, we were told if we'd booked with Virgin Holidays they would have absorbed the cost. When we did book it we called Virgin Holidays first and they told us to ring Virgin Atlantic.
The not being able to afford it bit was Hypothetical of course
(however it is a bit of a stretch).
