I wasn't concerned about them sending it to me recorded as I knew that I'd be covered if they didn't turn up.

Guess I'll just do what most people are suggesting and not bother, and let him learn from his mistakes some time down the line . . . .

i try to think of the postage + item and is that a good deal to or not , doesnt really matter what they paid for postage if you got a good deal

and if it got there when promised with no damage theres no problem is there
  • Have just left positive feedback.

Interestingly, I noticed that he's already received one neutral for charging over double the actual cost of postage and, apart from the item description, his other stars are all 4.7 or 4.8, so it looks like others have been marking him down.

I can't believe anyone would seriously consider marking down stars because they didn't get a personal message! It takes long enough to go through ebays awful and slow system to mark items as dispatched and leave feedback, no need to add to that with pointless personal message.
  • Why do you want a personal message? eBay now automate comms and the sooner they are removed from DSR the better, as you have proven.

Dispatch Time - slow but within the delivery time in the auction. If the item was only a few pounds, I wouldn't worry about this, but as it was £150, I personally would have sent it quickly, or at least advised when it was going to be sent.
Really struggling on what to leave for this - 3 stars???

This one narks me all the time. Dispatch time is how long it took the seller to dispatch it, not how long it took to arrive. If it is dispatched via RM there will be a post mark, via any other means you should be able to track it which will include dispatch date.

So long as the dispatch date is within the time frame set out in the listing then the buyer has fulfilled his promise, whether it arrives next day or next week. Once it is on it's way and sent using the method paid for buy the buyer, the seller is unable to influence how long it takes to arrive unless he has his own delivery fleet.

Maybe you need to get a better internet connection! It takes me a matter of a few seconds to connect to eBay, go to 'My eBay' and mark an item as dispatched! And the comment about a personal message was just as an example and not the only reason!

I know the difference between dispatch and delivery!.

Delivery was the next day after posting which is excellent. However dispatch was 5 days after the auction.

I was going to go on about how I treat people I've sold to and so how I expect to be treated (at least by private sellers), but clearly all the sellers on here don't have the same high standards as me so I'd be wasting my time!

How you treat people you have sold to is irrelevant. All that matters is that you got what you paid for in the time frame stated. Professional sellers on eBay are not so different to buying off any e-commerce site. Would you expect PC World or Asda to send a personal thank you message?

I wasn't having a go at you personally, more a general observation, but as you have retorted I quote
Dispatch Time - slow but within the delivery time in the auction.

Was the item dispatched within the time frame of the auction, or delivered within the time frame of the auction? Usually both are included in the details. If the seller says he dispatches in 48 hours and he takes 5 days then he hasn't fulfilled his own criteria. But that isn't what you said.

I post or book the courier same day, or next at the latest after payment received, depending on the time it's made.
After posting I send a message to say thanks, let them know it's been sent & postage method, mark as despatched & leave FB.

I quite like to know when an item has been posted to me, I wouldn't mark a seller down because they didn't bother, don't have time to, or have better things to do.
  • However, what about the stars?

Communication - basically there wasn't any!
So is it reasonable for me to leave 1 star?

If there was no need for communication and there wasn't any then 5* I would only mark down if there was a problem or discussion and communication was poor or slow or if I was hassled. Personally speaking I get enough automatic emails from ebay and paypal about transactions without extra unecesary emails.
Dispatch Time - slow but within the delivery time in the auction.
If it's within the delivery time quoted then 5*. I would only mark down if they seller didn't live up to their promises.
Postage and Packing charges - Happy with what I paid, but over double what it actually cost.
So what did it actually cost? You have told us what the postage cost was but what was the actual cost of packing. I know some people think packaging costs/expenses/time should not be included in this cost but I do. Having said that if it really is £8 for 26 items stuffed together in 1 jiffy bag then it seems a bit steep
Should I email him to point out that, had they got lost, he would not have been covered for the full £150?
No, it's his decision and he may have had his reasons for choosing the service he did.
