Be thankful that it is a tenant - you get the option of eviction! My OH tells me off for opening the windows, hasn't got time to install the extractor fan that is sitting on the shelf, keeps the bathroom door closed after his shower (dehumidifier cable won't stretch as far as letting me leave it in there so its outside the door!) and then complains that I don't clean frequently enough when mould builds up!!
I'd install the extractor fan myself but that won't be done to his satisfaction either. Seriously considering evicting myself until he pulls his finger out :rotfl:0 -

Cherryjack,
As a matter of interest, has your extractor fan got an ON/OFF switch (usually outside the bathroom)? My tenant had the extractor switched off when I visited, but swore that she usually has it on! People switch them off because they find the noise annoying, especially at night when it runs on for a while after a nocturnal visit to the loo.0 -

Hi lucy :-)
Thanks for the reply... ahh ive never thought of this and that could definetly be something to be looked into. The letting agency have got back to me and they have given her a step by step guide of ventilation etc.. but it wont hurt to mention this. Also shes home alot in the day and has twins so another thought is she wouldnt need the light on in the daytime when bathing them.. so the extractor fan wont be on.. and if she closes the door with no window open.. then this could be why its happening.
Funny how you think of these things after a few days .. :-)0 -
Just a random thought - there's nothing going on stopping her opening the window during and after a shower? Sounds odd - but we're having bother at the moment - we tend to run the shower, leave the window open while we head out to work and close it when we get back on an evening - but the yobbo builders from hell out the back of us are bonfire obsessed (think they're preparing for all the strikes practicing their huddling round a brazier technique or something) so we're having to shut the window since we've come back 3-4 times to the house absolutely reeking of their bonfire smoke since they tend to start them mid-afternoon.
We had some success with those moisture traps from Lakeland and the like as well - the ones you top up with crystals. Shoved them on the windowsills of the more condensation prone rooms last winter and they made a difference.Little miracle born April 2012, 33 weeks gestation and a little toughie!0 -
Wherever possible, I always leave the littlest bathroom window open. It doesn't send much cold in, but definitely lets moist out.
OH didn't get it at first until I explained why I had heating on in a room that had an open window. We may not have it all together, but together we have it all
