Hey
I've run out of carpet cleaning solution to use with a vax rapide carpet washer deluxe I've borrowed.

The solution in stores is so expensive though. Does anyone have any homemade recipes they would like to share?
Thanks

I'd like to use ingredients that are generally already in the home, as I could spend an hour walking up town to maybe/maybe not find some 1001 carpet cleaner fro about £2.50.0 -
Given that it's apparently someone else's that you've borrowed it's probably not a good idea to put random things into it. You'll get a bottle of 1001 for a couple of quid in Home Bargains/similar stores. (problem is a lot of stuff will foam up which will stop the cleaner working)0

I'm sure any homemade recipes would have LESS harmful ingredients than a store bought one.
If anyone has any recipes then please list then here.
I'm not interested in walking (taking up time), or driving to the shops (Taking up time and cost of fuel) to the shops to buy a store bought solution.

home made?
just mix some washing up liquid and hot water.
beware,
some of em like fairy liquid can/do contain some serious chemicals. may damage your carpet.
pure liquid soap is far better/safer.Get some gorm.0 -
why not ask the owner of the machine if they mind you putting an alternative cleaner in it ? maybe they will have a suggestion for you0

I have a Bissel carpet washer and have used stardrops, a bit of washing up liquid, or washing powder, if I have run out of proper cleaner.
Try a little bit first.
I have added zoflora if I have it, to disinfect the carpet.
As long as you don't put bleach in or loads of soap, you will be ok.0 -
The warning responses WERE money saving since, if you busted a machine that didn't belong to you, you would be coughing up hard cash to replace it, wouldn't you?
In a pinch, I have used all sorts in my Bissell, from shower gel to dilute shampoo or non-bio laundry liquid but I wouldn't be running the risk of putting someone else's property in harm's way and I see no offence in forum members warning you of what could go wrong.0 -
We used a bit of washing liquid (surf, in our case) most of the time in ours.0

seeing you can get decent carpet shampoo for less than a tenner , why bother putting anythying else in your (or your friends ) machine -0
