Photo in company brochure??

Not sure if this is the right board but...
My company wants to put a head and shoulders shot of all the staff in a company brochure and on a notice board in reception. I am a very private person and object to this but have been told I have no choice. Do I have to agree to this and supply a photo?

It's on a noticeboard not all over the press0

Your company could no doubt tell you that you're having your picture taken and it'll go on a security pass, and the intranet if they wanted.
Although I'm with you on it, I hate having it done and normally just tell them to nob off and constantly avoid them.0 -
It's only a photo of your face not your telephone number, address and bra size.
Do you walk round with a bag over you head so nobody can see you?0 -
Is is on a public noticeboard or just a staff one?0

Generally they have a clause that permits such things in your contract. It can be as vague as "and any other activities to enhance the presence of the company" or "you will support the company in all marketing processes".
Generally speaking, they will say it is required by your job role and as such you have no come back. Perhaps a polite letter stating your reasons why you can not have you picture on display would help?0 -
Presumably it's just so people can put a face to your name... I find it such a relief at work when I can look up a person's picture and make sure that I'm going to approach the correct person. Saves so much embarrassment!
What is it you specifically object to?Mortgage | £145,000Unsecured Debt | [strike]£7,000[/strike] £0 Lodgers | |0 -
Thanks for your replies. I think I will do what Stephen suggests and write a polite letter stating my objections. I don't mind the noticeboard in reception giving names and job title and can see the reason for that but I object to it going in a sales brochure and being handed out to all and sundry at exhibitions. I am just an administrator, not a high powered executive.
I have a standard letter of employment just stating hours, holiday etc, no terms and conditions.
I realise a lot of people don't understand my concerns as it would seem that most people want their "15 minutes of fame" - I don't, I value my privacy.0 -
Not sure what "fame" you would be getting nor really how its an invasion of your privacy. Wonder how many thousand CCTV pictures you're in? or photos taken by tourists/strangers with you in the background?
I doubt many people will even look at the sales brochure at the trade show let alone see your picture in it and decide you're so interesting that they are going to spend time and effort to try and track you down.0 -
Yeah, I hardly think you're going to start getting paparazzi or fan letters.
You may value your 'privacy', but you'll no doubt be seen as a time waster and an annoyance to management with such irrational behaviour.Hope over Fear. #VoteYes0 -

I hate photos of myself but at the same time I'd not cause a drama over it or get upset at people wanting to use my photo, my photo was sent into a pony club magazine recently I can't say I was happy but I certainly wasn't upset about it or wanting it removed as I realise not many actually paid any attention to it anyway.
So no I don't want 15 minutes of fame I'm just not neurotic enough to worry about such things, people look at my face, my !!!! etc I've probably been caught scratching my !!!! on CCTV but I don't scream that it is an invasion of my privacy.0
