Can anyone advise please?
My daughter is doing her PHD & her current laptop (5 years old & a cheapy) is just too slow now.
I would like to get her one for christmas & would like to know what to look for.
She needs to have several windows open & to be able to get things loaded quickly.
Needs to have good word processing ability.
She downloads lots of music & like watching DVD's.
Doesn't need gaming capacity
Any suggestions/pointers would be much appreciated & indicators of price.
Thank you very much

No point in spending much more than £300 for the use you've outlined.
The brands are much of a muchness at that price point.
I've used Saveonlaptops, and can recommend them.
Another reputable retailer is ebuyer, although I see theirs are all more than £300.

go for an Intel i3 or i5 processor (i7 might be over kill) -- both nice processors and will deal admirably with your DD's demands/requirements .BLOODBATH IN THE EVENING THEN? OR PERHAPS THE AFTERNOON? OR THE MORNING? OH, FORGET THIS MALARKEY!

Best value budget laptop at the moment is this Fujitsu one.

Whether it'll last 5 years is another matter. Excludes word processing software.0 -
