Morning everyone,
I know the gentlemans question re:Travel Card was answered below - however, does anyone know what the situation would be with regards to unused travel vouchers?
Long story short, I won a grands worth from work and I'm trying to work out if they are worth a grand or a pound :rotfl:
Thanks everyone

Hi!
I'm in the same boat with £740 worth of vouchers; should I get something booked now or are they safe?
Am I also correct in the belief that ATOL / ABTA protection won't extend to flight bookings - so I'm hoping to go to America next September - if I book the flights now and the hotels sooner to the time that's still dodgy?
Thanks
Kevin0 -
Flight bookings should be protected if they are on scheduled flights, but booking a charter ticket on its own on TC's website is now outside ATOL protection, and has been for a couple of years. Anything else booked should be protected completely0

But if you have an annual travel insurance policy - that will cover all costs. However, for vouchers you may need to check with the insurers first.0

Many thanks for your help guys0

I presume until anything is booked the vouchers will just be unsecured and you are unlikely to receive anything from TC. So book urgently with them something ATOL protected.0

Yes. Its a bit like a gift voucher for a high street fashion store. If you have the voucher, and the company goes under, the voucher is worthless.
I agree, booking something ATOL protected is best.
However, in theory you could also book scheduled flights. If you booked, say BA flights with Thomas Cook agent, and the booking was confirmed, with a BA e-ticket, that booking should stand if TC did fail.0 -
We've just been & spent our saved vouchers- Go in & speak to the staff in a branch as ours was really knowledgeable about what is & isn't covered when you spend your vouchers. We were halfway to saving for flights to China but instead are now heading to Mexico with lits of Mayan tours instead!First home- Oct’16 until June’21: £170.995- Overpayments made £13,784 (25% extra!).
New forever home- Sep’21 £309,449 @ 2.05%. Plan to clear it before 30 years!!!!!!0 -
I have won TC Worldwide vouchers from work over the past 2 years.
Easy way to turn them into cash for little cost.....
Book something like a hotel for just over the value of the vouchers. Make sure the rate you choose can be cancelled and isn't "non refundable". Check different hotels for the lowest cancellation fee - under £15 should be easy to find.
Do the booking using a credit card. Send your vouchers off to TC using special delivery (RM) with the booking reference numbers.
When they receive the vouchers, they will phone you and ask for your credit card details and refund the voucher value to your card. Once you can see the voucher refund on your online banking, go and cancel the booking. They will refund this less the cancellation fee to the credit card you used.0 -
Thank you to everyone who replied - have a great day! :beer:0
