Anyone else had a phone call tonight from MBNA?

Had a call about two hours ago from MBNA promotions dept offering me 12 months 0% balance transfer as an existing customer of the American Airlines Amex card.

Funny, as I just shifted £7k away from my MBNA mastercard within the last month, after I was told by an MBNA operative that they weren't giving any more offers due to their imminent departure from the UK credit card market.

I have various balances around the place at the moment, but they're all on 0%, except for one balance on an old Intelligent Finance card when they ran a 4.95% LOB about 5 years ago. I put about £4k on it in 2006 and its down to about £1800 now. Hardly worth transferring as the saving would be pretty marginal allowing for their 3% handling fee.

Seems like so much in life, when you need a 0% offer you have to go scouring around. When you don't need one, people phone you up offering them!

It could be someone else trying to persuade you to give you their credit card number, expiry date, CVV code, name and address. All they need to rip you off.

No. I think it was genuine. All they asked for was my postcode, year of birth, and the first letter of my mother's maiden name. Can't get far with such scant information.

I think actually the offer is only for MBNA affinity cards, not MBNA's own cards, which might explain why they are willing to offer on this, despite pulling out of the market.
