Car Insurance for less than 12 months?

Can anyone tell me if you can get car insurance which doesn't last for the full 12 months?

My car insurance is due for renewal in October 2005, i will be 24. My 25th birthday is not until January 2006. Can i get insurance to cover me until i am 25 and then take out a 12 month policy after my birthday and enjoy the "benefits" of being 25 as insurance should be cheaper

This idea that there is a sudden massive fall in insurance rates when you hit 25 is a myth.

Just renew your policy in October and then in October the following year.

The 10 month idea doesn't help as you actually need a 15 month policy to take you past your 25th birthday.

I didn't think that it was such as myth, I've been looking on the internet at quotes for car insurance and the difference between my age being 24 and 25 is at least £100 so far plus i will be able to drive a second car (third party only) which i haven't been able to do before
  • 25 is the last major age milestone for insurance until 50! It is definitely not a myth.

However it is also very hard to find a company that offer less than 12 months cover. If you pay monthly you could cancel but then run the risk of cancellation charges. Plus if you end up claiming you are tied to the contract as the insurer has fulfilled their part.

I know that Endsleigh did a 6 month policy a long time ago http://www.endsleigh.co.uk but I don't know if they still do it.

Try a local insurance broker rather than going direct. This is something they may be able to help you with.

Alternatively, some insurers offer policies for more than 12 months (ie NU have 14 month for price of 12 at moment). If you can find a 15+ month policy then you'll be 2 years older at next renewal, although will miss out on any benefits this next renewal (which is obviously what you need).

    Regards, Dave

when i had a look there was £100 difference in the quotes for exactly the same policy the only difference being age. It might not sound like a massive amount to you, but £100 is £100 and much better in my pocket than in the insurance companies.
