The Microsoft Notepad pales into insiginifance compared to this freebie.

We're using it at uni and thought it had to be the same. Thank you all for your help. Do they all do the same job? Web design

Have you looked in c:\Windows for notepad.exe
Just create another shortcut if you find it.

You may still find the alternatives handy, as they have extra features which can be very useful when programing.

For web design you would most certainly benefit from a more sophisticated editor. Notepad+, which was recommended by a previous poster, is excellent, but my own favourite is pspad. Try both - they each have their strengths and weaknesses.
  • Here's a script I used to replace Notepad with Notepad2 (or any replacement editor) and integrating it in Windows - http://webdevel.blogspot.com/2004_04_01_webdevel_archive.html#108246184802912349. With this .txt files etc. automatically open in Notepad2 and running Notepad opens Notepad2 instead.
