    Agreed about the score - put it this way - Credit Expert rate me "902 - Good" even though I have six defaults and a discharged bankruptcy order on my credit file... erm...

    And anyone who does a credit check on either of you wll treat you as a single entity in terms of credit scoring, now that you're financially linked.

    Best way forward is to simply get all the debt paid off and continue to never miss any payments on anything. Catalogue accounts aren't as helpful to credit scores as credit card accounts - and be weary of taking out new accounts as this can be a sign of instability.

    Creditors want to see accounts opened a long time, they want to see applicants who have a proven ability to maintain the status quo.
