can someone confirm whether tax is only due on the 8% interest element of the refund - or all the interest (on the refunded premiums).
I know the refunded premiums are tax free.

JUST the 8% interest and ONLY if it has been paid GROSS.
Don't inform HMRC until you have it in you bank

I take it you've never tried to call them before
I'd write to your tax office inclosing the ppi offer letters etc, ask for a response 0
