Your summary is correct, if you get your file cleaned then it should not trigger manual underwriting. However, if you write to Experian/Equifax to dispute any item and ask that it is amended they tend to put a notice of correction/dispute on there in the meantime. This always triggers manual underwriting until it is removed and in my experience they are not too sharp and getting things fixed.0

I don't mean just add a Notice of Dispute or Correction and then do nothing, I mean going through the whole process (which may involve Disputes which are later removed), so that you are left with a nice clean tidy credit file. Once that is done, surely there is no trace left that the file has been corrected. Therefore nothing would be there to trigger any manual underwriting.
You would have to do it with all 3 main referance agencies, as differences between them may again be assimilated into all three.0 -
The best way to get your free credit score is by signing up with Zopa.0

"Credit score" is really a meaningless term since there is no such thing. All lenders can interpret your credit information in any way they see fit. Although Equifax and Experian offer packaged solutions for credit rating the lender has to tailor their requirements for automated rating/scoring/underwriting.
Personally I do not trust Zopa, as far as I am aware they merely give you a number, how that would relate to any particular lenders criteria is unknown.
If the "best" way to get a meaningless number is to sign up with an unknown firm with a questionable business plan then go ahead, I'll stick with paying £2 a time for the data the number is based on thankyou.0
