How many years NCD have i got?

Hello

Sorry if this is a really basic question, but i am renewing my dad's car insurance, but can't find the number of years of no-claims he has built up.

It's either 8 or 9 i think, but can't find it on the renewal document he has (from saga). He did have a fault claim in November 2003, but had his NCD protected at the time (with More Than at the time so i don't think affected the ncd).

Having looked at lloydstsb (£120 cashback through quidco) they require proof of how many years no claims there is. I'm sure this is standard procedure, otherwise people could just put a high figure in any case.

Is the figure usually on the renewal notice, or should i find the actual policy from when this year's was started, or am i going to have to ring them? In which case it have to be tomorrow.

Thanks for any advice

Hi - I used to work in insurance (for my sins) and the number of years NCD should be stated on the renewal notice from his current insurer. And yes you're right any new insurance company would require proof of NCD from the last insurer, this is to confirm the number of years given at a quote and also to check if they had any claims etc.

Hi - I have recently taken out motor cover via Lloyds Tsb and their maximum NCD is 5 years so clearly they are not concerned with any higher levels of NCD be it 6 yrs NCD or 750 yrs NCD.
  • 90% of companies will work on 5 years or more being classed as maximum, although a select few do go up to 7 or 8
  • thanks for all your replies - it's definately not on the renewal notice, but on the original policy documents, it just states the previous insurer (swinton) and i'm assuming they chased it up with them?

Anyway when at the previous insurer it was 7 years ncd (found 2 year old policy documents), so last years should have been 8 and now we're in the 9th - though i think i will have to phone Saga to send either info to the new insurer or to me and i will pass it on.

Lloyds came out £200 more expensive than Direct Line for me, so it might be worth getting an estimate from them aswell. :) £50 quidco cashback if you are lucky.
