I also don't think it's a bad thing. I was on a 13 pay dates a year for 11 years. Best system I ever had!

Yes, you have to budget better, but simply see it as being paid early in June (for example) in readiness for July. Then when you get your 'extra' pay, it's all yours.

It just requires some planning (ie, don't spend it just because it comes earlier than usual!).
' <-- See that? It's called an apostrophe. It does not mean "hey, look out, here comes an S".

Where do you get that from? There will be one month with two wages but not necessarily December depending on when it starts.

Where I worked I seem to remmeber it being December maybe that was just the year I worked there. Anyway an extra pay day per year, can't be too bad whenever it comes

I totally agree I just didn't want the OP to assume, also it wouldn't stay the same month but would change.

I have 2 bank accounts. Get wages paid into one, then standing order the amount for bills over to the other - and set up direct debits on that account. So if a bill is £10 a month I send £10 (or probably £11 as I like to allow extra) over to the 2nd account each 4 weeks, and it sits there til it's ready to go.

4 weeks pay is 92% of the monthly pay

If your finances are so near the edge that his change will cause problem then there is a bigger issue than just this change.

remember we have more than just monthly cycles anyway, we also have weekly and annual and some may still have 1/4 and 1/2 .yearly

Easy way is stick one month in an account, have the wages paid into that and pay yourself once a month if it is that critical.

What a lot of people do is live for a month on 4 weeks pay and use the extra pay packet for annual bills or savings holiday etc.

Ah yes, I think this is the route they were going to go with employees at the council who were not going to swap voluntarily over to the new pay and conditions, they were going to lose their protection. Where am I getting 90 days from? I have this stuck in my head. Or is this an "urban myth?"

The changes were bigger - changes to pay and conditions, not simply to a minor term. So potentially redundancy legislation fell into place. Councils have more than 100 workers - hence 90 days. It would have been precautionary.

Ah brilliant, thanks, that would make sense. I just seem to have 90 days stuck in my head! Many thanks. I'm learning a lot!

Hoping you found your mearcat! (unsure of the spelling!)
I'm never offended by debate & opinions. As a wise man called Voltaire once said, "I disagree with what you say, but will defend until death your right to say it."
Mortgage is my only debt - Original mortgage - January 2008 = £88,400, March 2014 = £47,000 Chipping away slowly! Now saving to move.

I have not received my meerkat nor any reply to my complaint about it not arriving. I feel some need to revisit the Trades Descriptions Act - or some such thing :)
