Employer Changing pay cycle - Legals?

Employer is proposing to change our pay structure to a every 4 week pay, so there is no set pay day, most are upset about this.
is there any legals, regarding your employment contract, and your rights.
any advice on the changes and were we stand if we dont like the new pay cycle.

Hi there, I could be completely wrong, but I do not think there is anything you can do. I understand they can vary a term in your contract (such as the way you are paid) by either collective bargaining, or by giving 90 days notice.
I could be wrong, but I am about 75% sure this is the case.
They were able to vary peoples wages' this way after job evaluation at my place (90 days notice) so I should imagine it is the same for changing the way in which you are paid.
I know what you are saying. 13 paydays a year is a nuisance, especially if you pay monthly bills etc. I used to be on 4 weekly pay at Asda and it was annoying.I'm never offended by debate & opinions. 90 days notice as bluemeanie says is the legal notice period for changing something such as a pay frequency or pay date.
you don't have a choice in the matter. you may notice a change in your tax when the change takes place if done mid-year as the tax allowances will have to switch from 1/12 of your annual allowance to 4/52 of your annual allowance.Mortgage May 2012 - £129k

I dont think there is a legal requirement of 90 days unless someone can point me to a piece of legislation that states so. It is my understanding that the notice should be 'reasonable', which can only really be decided by an ET judge, however to vary a monthly paid employee I would consider 1 month to be reasonable.0

I changed to 13 times per year about 10 years ago. It took me a good 18 - 24 months to get used to it. For the first year I just couldn't understand why I was constantly overdrawn towards the back end of some months ( I was having an emotionally bad time then). Finally it clicked and for 5 months I reduced my spending in order to clear the overdraft and build up a small reserve. It doesn't help that the pay date changes every month as this can cause DD chaos.

There is no 90 day period of notice. If there is a contractual change and you refuse to agree to it the notice is whatever your notice period for your employment is. They can impose the change by offering you the new contract to run from the end of your notice with continuous service intact. If you still refuse, you have resigned. You could then theoretically make a tribunal claim for unfair dismissal - but this is a claim that in these circumstances you would not win.0

Look on the bright side you will get two payments in December - handy for xmas presents. Think of it as being a bit like an enforced piggy bank, you will get a bit of your salary saved every month and paid back to you once a year. I'm not being flippant I used to be paid like this myself and it was a godsend at the end of the year, could use that extra money to pay off bills/xmas presents/ jan sales.0

Ah yes, I think this is the route they were going to go with employees at the council who were not going to swap voluntarily over to the new pay and conditions, they were going to lose their protection. Where do you get that from? There will be one month with two wages but not necessarily December depending on when it starts.Lost my soulmate so life is empty.

i would get an overdraft as a buffer, you may not need it but it will be there if you do, quite honestly I don't see what all the fuss is about, sorry don't mean to be rude.Blackpool_Saver is female, and does not live in Blackpool0
