Where to sell a Silvio Berlusconi autograph

An interesting story this one. I collect autographs and have done for years. A couple of years ago I decided to send birthday cards to heads of states, presidents etc just to see what happened, nothing much to tell the truth until this time last year I got a handwritten compliment card from Silvio Berlusconi, hmm, I thought, quite interesting so this year I sent him another birthday card (his birthday is Sept 29th) and I received another reply. Now I'm a bit of a sceptic and a realist but the cards are handwritten and signed, I've shecked out other Silvio autographs and as far as I can tell it's genuine, it came in an envelope from his presidential address and is on headed card. It is in italian and I have obtained a translation which reads 'Thank you for your wishes, I am alive! with all the things they do to me, it (being alive) is good for me' The card is dated 29 September 2011 (his birthday, maybe he doesn't get many birthday cards so opens them on the day and replies to them!!!).

Now with it being Xmas and with what has happened in Italy I was pondering sticking it on Ebay but have really no idea whether to put it on with a high start, on with a reserve or whether to try selling it elsewhere as to somewhere like Frasers as it's a political autograph

Anyone's thoughts on this matter would be appreciated as I'm stuck wondering if it may be worth the effort.

Cheers

You really need to get it verified that the signature is authentic and not written buy one of his many blond long legged assistants. As without some official verification I doubt it would sell as there are numerous fake autographs on ebay.

being brutally honest you need Mr Berlusconi to pop his clogs before your autograph will start to have any real value.

Not sure how I'd go about that and obviously if it'd cost

You're probably right, maybe I should put it alongside my Maggie Thatcher one :)
  • Wait until they go back to the Lira. It will be worth millions!

Are you sure it is handwritten and not printed on the compliment slip to look like a signature? My father's 100th birthday card from the queen has what looks very like a signature but I can't imagine her spending hours signing cards.

  • Certainly looks interesting. But as has been mentioned above, it would really need verifying.

Many prominent leaders/political figures have mechanical "autopen" devices, in order to precisely duplicate their signature but without having to sign them by hand (found this out to my severe cost several years ago, when purchasing some genuine-looking items signed by a prominent American political figure).

I actually have 4 of these such notes from over the last 2 years and the signature varies on each one in such a way it could not be an autopen. It's all the same pen as the writing and date
