BMI Taking Additional APD Charge From Card I Used To Make Booking -Can They Do That?

I booked flight with BMI before the new increase in in Aircraft Passenger Duty. The cost is now £10 per person instead of £5. I received an email today advising me of the change but was surprised that they are taking the money directly from the card used to make the booking without asking me if I wish to choose to pay this way - I know I have to pay it but can they do this - just dip into my account because they have the details?

This tax will be debited from the card that was provided at the time of booking which will save you time, as you will not have to make the payment yourself.
