I had a feeling I had already posted this, but can't find the thread, so it may well be I've "had a moment".
I would say straight out that I am a complete klutz when it comes to computers and anything technical. I know SQUAT, so any replies you may give, can I please ask you to be really really patronising and don't assume I know or understand anything. Because I don't. Really I don't.
OK, my laptop (a Compaq Presaria C071) threw a wobbler recently. The upshot is that my husband took it to work, and he and a colleague rebuilt it, and it has come back totally upgraded to the latest version of Windows and the latest version of Outlook.
Previous to it throwing its hissy fit, it had worked along with my printer - an HP DeskJet 950C (bought in a charity shop for the totally bargainacious price of £10!) - perfectly well.
Since it has been upgraded, the printer doesn't work. My oh-so-very-technical-"I've-worked-in-IT-for-35-years" husband has been unable to get it working again. He says he has looked for drivers for it, but can't find them. I am more inclined to the idea that he's had a go and can't be bothered looking any more.
When I was idly looking over his shoulder, whatever place he'd searched online for the drivers gave a list of HP printers and showed pictures of them on the screen. Mine wasn't there, but the one that was labelled as a 950C looked like a much more modern model.
This is mine - http://www.google.co.uk/products/catalog?hl=en&client=firefox-a&hs=VsX&rls=org.mozilla:en-GB:official&q=hp+deskjet+950c&bav=on.2,or.r_gc.r_pw.,cf.osb&biw=1600&bih=797&um=1&ie=UTF-8&tbm=shop&cid=12489130428114411432&sa=X&ei=b4W5Ttq_LIug-AaN_LWbCA&ved=0CHUQ8wIwAg
(sorry for the the link - can't do the clever thing where you just have one clickable word in a post, and it won't let me post a t.i.n.y.u.r.l. link - and actually, having looked at the link again, it's showing an embarrassed smiley in the middle of it!!! so it might not even work anyway)
Anyway, is anyone able to offer some help with finding drivers that will link my printer to the laptop and talking me through installing it/them. The easier the better, obviously, cos I'm going to have to try doing this myself, as my husband seems have to given up trying.

Fantastic Take This. Thank you so so so much. You are now at the top of my New Best Friends list.
I will have a go at that, and (assuming I can get it to work) will take GREAT DELIGHT in telling the erstwhile oh-so-very-technical-"I've-worked-in-IT-for-35-years" husband that after careful consideration, he is an absolute plank!
If I can't get it to work, I will withdraw from cooking duties until he does it. This will ensure that it gets done very quickly, as he will soon tire of scrambled eggs on toast, chilli con carne and stir fry, as these are the only dishes he has learned to cook!!!0 -
Not an absolute plank, but maybe a relative plank!
Let's hope the copies of Windows 7 and Outlook are properly licensed....0 -

I DID IT!!! I DID IT!!! I DID IT!!! I DID IT!!!!
:j:j:j:j:j:j:j:j:j:j:j:j:j:j:j:j:j:j
Thank you so much to Take This for the help.
My only regret is that I didn't have a camera trained on my husband's face when the printer fired up and produced the "test print" page!!!
I honestly think this is the happiest I have been in my 26 year marriage :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl: (he ain't at all happy!!!)
John Gray - have no fears. All properly licenced. (but I still think my husband is an absolute plank:D)

OP i know its not related but for future info to do links that are short eg 1 word is highlighted in blue like this then follow this easy guide :
1 You copy the web address of the site you want to link to
2 Start a new thread/reply and start your post/reply and highlight a word or 2 words but your choice
3 Click on the picture of a globe with what looks like a paperclip
4 Right click in the box with http and highlight paste and left click once so the copied web address is pasted into the box then click ok
5 Finish of the post and click submit
There you go your link is done0 -
You sound exstatic, is that because you fixed it on your own or the fact your OH couldnt find the drivers to get it sorted or is it a mixture of both.0

Ha ha !! I am absolutely over the moon.
1. because I did it on my own
2. because I did something he couldn't. And that he was adamant couldn't be done, because he'd searched and asked on techy forums and couldn't do it - and had decided it actually couldn't BE done. Well:p to him and :T:T to MSE Techy Forum!
And thank you for the instructions for the easy link. I've copied them into a word document so I can find them again.0 -
