BT Credit Check

I need to get a BT line installed in my flat. In order to do this BT need to credit check me (as will my internet provider of choice Virgin).
As I've moved house so much and wasn't on the electoral roll I was rejected the last time I applied for a credit card (I was being a tart) and I'm worried this credit check will hearm my credit rating and that I'll have to leave it even longer to reapply for a lovely 0% credit card.
Do people think this will be the case. If so, I'm in a pickle.
