Dial-Up Connection Box Pops Up

Whenever I boot up my PC, the Dial-Up Connection box pops up, asking me if I want to connect. I close the box but it keeps on popping up again. Anyway to stop this?

I have Windows XP Home (SP2).

    Hi Paul
I don't have dial-up or XP Home, but you could check your IE settings (if you are using Internet Exlorer), right-click IE - properties - Connections, highlight default connection. Try changing the options. Maybe "Always dial my connection" is set?

If not ,hope someone else on the board with your setup can help.

    My IT husband says:

Go into Internet Explorer, then go to 'tools menu' and select 'internet options'.
Select the 'connections' tab, change settings to 'dial whenever a network connection is not present', click OK.

Hope this works, should only prompt you to dial when your network connection has done away.

PS we have Windows XP professional, which is the same as home in this respect.

    deadi and JayS:

Thank you, that does appear to have worked, but I do not know why!

I use Firefox most of the time and Firefox is configured as my default browser, so why an IE setting makes the dial-up box pop-up I do not know! In fact, if I look at the Task Manager IE is not even running - very mysterious!

It had been doing this for months - and just waited me to say I wanted to connect or not. If I said no, it would keep on popping up! More recently, it would pop-up and actually dialled my default connection when I did not want it to! As I am on broadband only, I knew that if it was some sort of 090x rogue dialler it would not matter but it was very annoying!

But, because I am on broadband, connection is so quick anyway and I did not have time to untick the automatic connect checkbox on the dial-up box when it popped up! Eventually, after many attempts, I did manage to uncheck it in time but, of course this still did not stop it popping up asking me multiple times if I wanted to connect.

IE also has another fault if I actually use it in the first few minutes after computer power-up. The text size of web pages is too big. It remains like this for a few minutes, the computer then beeps, the desktop goes black for a while then normal service is resumed - desktop reverts to usual colour and the text size goes back to normal. Even if IE is not running, I get the 'beep' and the desktop going black briefly before returning to normal - this is always a few minutes after powering-up computer.

I did a full re-install of IE at what point, but this made no difference!

    Any more ideas?
