Budget TV

Options
Hi,

We are looking for a new TV for a spare room 24/26 inch.

Have looked at many of the "supermarket" own brand stuff and have experience of some. The reviews I have seemhere and elsewhere of these items aren't always positive but that may be down to expectation as much as anything else.

Saw this

http://www.ebuyer.com/268841-f-h-26in-led-full-hd-1080p-fh-26lmje

Which looked reasonable anybody got any experience of the brand or TV?

It mentions "and with clear audio sound from the glass panel this new technology eliminates the use of traditional paper cone speaker technology while still achieving a perfect sound."

Does this mean anything to anyone - suspect means "tinny" or little base?

Will probably be used for gaming too so lower power consumption would be good. Freeview, full HD required.

Finally any experiences re ebuyer?

  • I cannot see any mention of that TV having a Freeview HD tuner, it could be the older DVB-T rather than DVB-T2.

eBuyer is a pretty good company. I have ordered quite a few times. Any problems are sorted out. It can get a bit expensive if you want to telephone, 10p/min. It's usually done via an enote system. I had some problems with a screw box that I ordered, it was broken. The replacement was also broken although less so. They only collected the first one and told me to keep the 2nd and sent a replacement. The 2nd one I managed to superglue the broken corner.

People say that with small TV's, FullHD makes little difference as you cannot see it.

Thanks for picking that up, I am happy for the basic freeview for this TV. The only reason for wanting 1080P was it is the "current" top standard. I have also read that upscaled 720 to 1366x768 can cause some compatibly issues with attached peripherals sucha s PS3.

I will check out the links thanks.

  • Any scaling can cause problems and with certain system combinations you will find things are being rescaled multiple times with each one potentially creating issues.

Speakers are simple things, they work by moving air. The smaller the speaker inevitably the smaller the amount of air it can move. The smaller the TV etc the smaller the speaker has to be. Obviously this is a simplistic view and there are things that can be done to make small speakers sound better and big speakers sound rubbish but ultimately you cannot break the basics of physics.

AV Forums is a good resource but they sometimes can be a little snobbish when it comes to discussing budget equipment rather than premium brands flagship models.
