Renting in Greenwich Millenium Village

Hello
We are considering moving to the Greenwich Millennium Village after living 2 years in Wimbledon, main reason being to cut down on the commute time. Since we aren't going to save much on the commute (strangely enough there's not a big difference in a Zones 1-3 pass and a Zone 2 only pass) we are trying to figure out where else we might save.
We're saving about 30 quid a month on council tax and around 80 on transport. What we can't figure out is what to expect in terms of water and heating charges which are supposedly controlled centrally. Currently we pay around 300 pounds flat for the year for water and a lot for electricity because that's the only fuel in our existing house (plus there's no double glazing which means we sometimes pay 100 pounds per month in the deepest of winters).
Does anyone have any experience of living in the GMV?
Thanks.

Where abouts do you work? I know a couple of people who live there so can check on the numbers you ask.....0 -
My wife goes to canary wharf. I work near Bank at the moment but will move to canary wharf in a few months.
Would u also be so kind as to find out if it is a relatively safe place to live? We don't know anyone there and have seen such mixed reviews on the internet. My wife and I rarely commute together so is it alright for her to come home alone?
Thanks.0 -
I used to live in Westcombe Park which is still SE10 postcode. I LOVED it. Was one of the nicest places I've lived and would definitely recommend Westcombe Park, or maybe Maze Hill. I think the Millennium Village bit is the modern properties near North Greenwich station (quite colourful properties?) - not been to that bit for a long time so it might have changed, but I definitely wasn't so keen on that side of Greenwich. I've come out of that station late at night and it's just massively open - car parks, etc, and feels somewhat deserted and slightly industrial. There are nearby things now open late - cinema, sainsbury's, etc - but they're a fair bit further along I seem to remember. It's definitely not the nicest side of Greenwich, but it depends what you're looking for. I guess it's 'safe' in that it's not you don't hear about problems there generally, but I did not like coming out of that station late at night.
Have you been there yet, or is it something you're just considering? Have a virtual walk round on google maps, or have a weekend there and walk from the station late at night.
If you lived nearer Greenwich itself, you'd have the DLR which goes directly into Canary Wharf. Or the overhead from Maze Hill or Westcombe Park, but would then have to change - not a lot going on in either area, but a very nice feel. Alternatively, Blackheath is lovely too.
