Neff ovens - don't expect them to be reliable

I thought it might be useful to potential buyers to hear just how unreliable Neff ovens have become over recent years. They used to be good, many years ago, but not now. I've had nothing but trouble from a very expensive double oven, and to add insult to injury the customer service/repairs people (not the engineers) are every bit as bad as the ovens.
The one we bought in the mid-80s was fine, but my experience of more recent ones is that they're best avoided. I've had two in 6 years. One had to be replaced altogether because of problems with it, and the other has just cost around £250 to deal with a simple problem. The parts are ridiculously expensive, they have (in our experience) a high failure rate, and you get about as much help from Neff when things go wrong as you'd expect from Poundland for a broken pencil.
They've cheapened these ovens beyond measure (not that that's reflected in the price they charge), and it's the reliability that's taken a hit. I will never, ever buy another Neff after the bad experiences we've had, and I'd advise anyone thinking of buying one to look for another brand.

On the other hand, we had a Neff built in electric oven with Neff gas hob in our previous property for seven years and never had a problem with either of them, we did damage one of the knobs and when we phoned Neff for a replacement they sent one free of charge.
When we moved into this property three years ago we had a new kitchen fitted and decided to go for the same Neff combination and so far have they have been completely reliable with no faults.0 -
Also on the other hand our neff oven is still going strong after about 10 years, had a few things that needed to be repleced though but apart from that its still working.0

The problem seems to be with the more recent ones. We used to swear by our old Neff, but in the case of the new one we swear at it!
I've got no doubt at all that they used to be a very reliable brand, but I'm afraid our experience of recent ones has been appalling.0 -
I deal with Neff, Siemens, Elica, Rangemaster, Falcon, AEG, Zanussi, Electrolux and Whirlpool (but I'll exclude them as they are a quite recent addition to our range)
In the past two years I have had the following number of problem appliances:
Neff: 2
Siemens: 1 (Actually only a year of dealing with them again, not the full 2)
Elica: 1
Rangemaster: 1
Falcon: 0
AEG: 5
Zanussi: 11
Electrolux: 14
(I keep a log of all appliance issues at work)
[We stopped dealing with Candy around 3 months ago, but up until then I'd had 10 issues with their products and I hardly sold any of them]
Of all those brands, I'd say I've sold a very similar amount of Neff, Siemens and AEG (probably around 80% of all appliance sales combined) around 5% each of Electrolux, Zanussi and Elica and the remaining 5% made up of the others.
The German brands are a LOT more reliable than the others, plain and simple. Sometimes you get a faulty appliance, that's life and the OP is VERY unlucky to have had two issues. But to tell people to avoid them is going a little too far...If it looks like a duck, and quacks like a duck, we have at least to consider the possibility that we have a small aquatic bird of the family anatidae on our hands

We have a Neff built in double oven and grill and a Neff hob. We have had them for seven years....no problems at all.0
