PC turns on but nothing else

I switched my PC on this evening, but although the power supply worked and I got power to the CD drive, I didn't get any power to the mouse, keyboard, speaker or monitor. When I switched it on the normal black and white opening screen which tells me what the PC has inside didn't come on.
Can anyone advise as to what may be wrong. Not quite sure how old the PC is, my son built it from his when he upgraded.

Could stll be the power upply as there are multiple voltages for the computer, one might have failed or it could be the motherboard.
Suggest you unplug the mains lead from the mains for 10 mins then re-try as I have seen some mainboards/PSU reset themselves when this happens.
Also unplug any printers etc that are connected as well prior doing the above.0
